How to Write 100 Consecutive Daily Blog Posts

Writing blog posts

I often wonder if one day I will find myself staring at my computer screen with a mind as blank as the screen itself?

Will my fingers just hover idly above the keyboard waiting in anticipation for my brain to send a signal – a signal that is lost and for some reason cannot be found?

I read a lot of stories about writers who have stumbled across a creative block, and I also read a lot of remedies in the form of advice.

So far in my short writing career I suffer from a completely different problem – I cannot stop writing!

When I first decided to create a blog I followed a familiar pattern. I asked Google for the answer to all of my prayers and Google sent me to places like this. It was people like Marko Saric who taught me that content was king. If I wanted a blog that attracted a lot of visitors then I needed to write valuable content regularly.

So I decided to write one blog post every day and each blog post was a minimum of 1,500 words – you cannot get more regular than that! For 125 days I continued to produced a daily blog post and I only stopped doing it because my life was getting increasingly busier.

I never once suffered a creative block and in fact I had so many ideas flowing through my mind I believe I could have easily have gone a whole year straight.

A few weeks ago I shut down the blog that broke my virginity and introduced my second relationship to the world. The Needy Helper was born and to celebrate its birth I made a promise to my readers (even though I didn’t have any!) that I would write 100 consecutive daily blog posts.

So how do I manage to keep finding things to write about? Here are my top five tips.

Get Ahead of Yourself

I always write three posts per day and this ensures I never miss a deadline no matter what is happening in the world. Without a reserve supply of posts you will create a rushed job and it will shine through like a piece of silver in a dog turd. I always edit and publish one post while writing two more in draft form and leaving them to mature for a day or two.

Socialise

Get out amongst people and find stories because they are everywhere. I write about poker and so I spend a lot of time with people who play poker. I am serious when I tell you that I can write a whole movie script based on one night out with the lads.

Note Taking

It is no good socialising and trying to remember everything everyone is saying. My friends know me all too well now and they even tell me when to write a quote or a funny conversation into my iPhone.

Having a method of on-the-spot note taking is vital but even more vital is training your ear and your mind to know when something of interest has just been said and that it needs noting down.

Soap Operas

Everyone in the UK loves a soap opera and writers of blogs should be no different. The soap opera is a series of stories that just keep on arriving on our screens day after day, week after week and year after year. The idea works the same when it comes to your blog posts.

On my new blog I am explaining to people how to move from being a Sleepwalker to a Daydreamer. This is my own personal story and I am able to break it down into an index of blog posts all linked together in the same way a soap opera is.

Reading

I am currently reading 52 books in 52 weeks and it is producing a hailstorm of ideas for blog posts. I have a little ritual when I read and I will share it with you. I have a plan to read a certain number of pages each day, a yellow highlighter and an app called Wunderlist.

As I read, ideas for new blog posts just fly from the pages and into my mind. I highlight words, phrases and quotes that I can later use as content and then I write a title of a blog post into my Wunderlist app. Later when it is time to write I use my highlighted book as reference and off I go.

So there you have it – five top tips for writing 100 consecutive blog posts.
