Why you should consider Thesis Theme design for your blog

Thesis theme 1.5 has just been released today. As upgrades are free, I updated my blog right away. This post features my video preview of interesting options in the Thesis 1.5 interface.

No major breakthroughs this time compared to Thesis 1.4 when Teasers and magazine style front page were introduced. But there are several tweaks which now make Thesis even more user friendly than it was before.

My Thesis 1.5 video preview

Several new options in the Thesis theme interface will make it very easy for anyone to customize their blogs. Thesis now includes easy customization of the navigation menu, customization of the sidebar and content area sizes plus some new options to the way you display featured posts on your front page.

As usual with Thesis, you just choose between several options available, press the save button and your blog is automatically updated. This is my preview of some interesting features:

What’s new in Thesis 1.5?

Navigation menu

  • Simple to choose which pages to include in the menu
  • Drag and drop the order of pages in the menu
  • Simple to edit the name of the pages in the menu

SEO

  • Add “Noindex” to archive pages
  • Canonical URLs – permanent redirect inbuilt

Featured posts

  • Very simple to choose if you want to display full post content or to display post excerpts
  • Easy to change the “Read more” text

Comments

  • You can disable comments on all pages
  • Threaded comments are now supported

Columns / sidebar sizes

  • Very simple to choose your own column and sidebar sizes

Paddings

  • Outer page padding is now simple to edit

Conclusion

If you loved Thesis theme you will now love it even more as it gives you more options. If you are new to blogging, Thesis is now an even better option as it lets you make so many different blog customizations by just selecting between choices and clicking on the save button. It still costs $87 and you get free upgrades for life with your purchase. Get your Thesis now!

I have just upgraded my new personal blog to 1.5 and it’s amazing. Going to get around to doing it to my other blog soon as well.

I seriously love the new, easy way to set column widths. It’s insanely useful, and I’m so glad it works flawlessly on my blog.

    Matt Langford April 30, 2009

Yep, it’s terrific! There is no better theme/framework on Wordpress than Thesis.

hey Marko, thanks for this post. I recently hired someone to upload the latest Thesis 1.5 beta version, and I have no clue how to upgrade because there are so many customizations on my site. Do you think it’s vital I upgrade from the beta version? Are there many differences from the beta to the final version? Thanks so much.

    Thanks for comments!

@Renee – I am not sure what the changes are but there are usually fixes done compared to beta. That’s why I usually don’t install beta, and that is why I would recommend upgrading to the “full” version.

    hai Marco,

how to disable/hide teaser and make our blog like normal in Thesis theme??

i don’t want any teaser before my footer, i want a normal blog with let say 10 post per page..

    like this one

    http://ohtidak.com/

    no teaser box below..

    please!!!

    thank you

    Marko Saric January 4, 2010

In Thesis Options under Home Page Display choose 10 featured posts to be shown. Then teasers will be turned off.

You just have to fill in the “RSS link text” field, Thesis will take care of the rest.

    Hi Marko,
A quick question – is Thesis compatible with WP Super Cache?

I’d ask at Thesis’ support forum, but annoyingly that’s only available to paid users, and I’d like to know *before* I pay up!

PS: I’ve been reading your site for a few weeks now, and really appreciate the awesome content :)

    Marko Saric April 30, 2009

@mang – Yeah, it is compatible. WP Super Cache is one of the plugins I’ve used when I published my WordPress plugins post and it worked fine. Unfortunately I never had the Digg effect to really test it with tons of traffic hehe…

    mang April 30, 2009

    Hi Marko,
    Thanks for your reply :)

Thank you soo much! The video was excellent and I’m very excited to upgrade my Thesis theme!!

    Renee April 30, 2009

Thanks Marko. OK, I will try to figure it out and install the newer version asap :)
Great site, by the way, keep it up!

AHHH! I’m struggling with my decision now. When I originally built my blog I used the free Wordpress theme “Clean Copy” and I have done a ton of CSS customizations (with too many hours of work to count) that I’m quite proud of.

I wish there was a way to “test drive” Thesis to see if I like it better than the way I designed my own blog! If anyone wants to take a look at my blog design and give their opinion on whether or not I should make the switch I’d appreciate it very much. And don’t worry, you won’t hurt my feelings ;)

    Thanks for the update info.

    Marko Saric April 30, 2009

@MJ Doyle – Your blog looks pretty good. If you know coding and you already spent a lot of time on doing CSS and feel comfortable with it and like your blog, then I guess you don’t need to switch to get all the help that Thesis gives to us that have not much knowledge on CSS and coding.

    MJ Doyle April 30, 2009

@Marko – Thanks for taking a look. I’m certainly no CSS or coding expert but I took a lot of time learning how to get it looking the way I wanted before I launched my site. There are still some things I would change, hence the temptation to check Thesis out.

    Thanks again!

Thanks for the helpful information. I have changed my the theme to my website 4 times in the last year. I tend to jump ship every time I want to add a new feature or function to it and just buy a new one.

I need something more scalable that can grow with me. Thesis seems to do this. However, I have yet to see a working thesis site that blows me away or has the look and feel I am looking for. Is there a showcase out there (other than the one on the diy site)?

Marko Saric can you convert in blogger theme..?

    Marko Saric October 22, 2009

No, Blogger is unfortunately not as flexible and customizable as Wordpress.

    Srinu October 21, 2009

    Nice theme ..!
