HowtoMakeMyBlog.com was started in late October 2008. As the traffic started increasing, I wanted to optimize the blog design to offer the best possible value to all the visitors. I decided to change the theme and I just got my first ever copy of the popular Thesis WordPress theme.
Why I chose Thesis theme
Some of my favourite blogs use Thesis theme. It makes these blogs very unique and very professional so Thesis was on my list of potential themes from the start. Check CopyBlogger, Suggarraa, ChrisBrogan and TwiTip for examples on how the theme can be used.
Thesis ia a premium theme which means you have to pay to use it. I decided it would be a good investment in the short-term and also in the long-run so I decided to pay $87 to get my own Thesis theme.
Usability
- Very professional look
- Very clean layout
- Very easy to read
- Customizable columns and sizes
- Search engine optimized
Post writing
- Professional styling
- Handy alert / note function
- Easy headline customization and font selection
- Drop Caps style which I love
- Easy incorporation of images and ads
…and these are only the options I have used in the first 2 days of working with Thesis!
All in all, the blog now looks much more authoritative, trustworthy and professional. I will slowly work on further improving the blog and hopefully you will like the changes I make.

Thesis is great, but I suggest you at least change the background color (and border). Due to the enormous success of thesis, lots of sites use it and the gray is starting to bother me
@Wesley – Thanks for the comment. How about plain black? Or do you have some other suggestions?
@ Marko,
Why not try a dark blue, maybe navy?
@Rezbi – Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried with navy and somehow it just doesn’t feel right because of the header image and letters… it kind of took too much attention…
How about the same blue as the writing in the headline?
Try a few different shades
I use Thesis on my blog too and I have been so very happy with it. I don’t know much of the technical stuff, but I was able to do so much customization with this theme, and rather quickly, too. I still want to develop it more, but I can do that as I have the time.
Hey Marko,
Although I’ve been using WP for more than a year, I’m still very unaware of it’s potential and what it can do. Your blog is really helping. Really.
I’ve been using Arthemia for a while and I’m looking into changing to a premium theme. I’ve heard a lot about the Thesis theme. And your write up on it does given another dimension to its flexibility.
And in the event that I decide to go for Thesis theme, rest assured that I’ll come back to your blog and click on the Thesis theme from your blog. You deserve the commission!
I appreciate you!
@Melvin Neo – Thanks for the support! Switching to Thesis definitely improved my blog, the readability, the presentation of the articles etc. And now I don’t even look back and I use Thesis on every project I have.
Totally convinced. Have been driven crazy recently as a non coder by challene of changing my header. Totally seems worth the investment . THANK YOU.
@Shannon Aronin – No problem, glad my tips were useful to you. Good luck with your Thesis!
I use the Thesis theme on my Wordpress blog. So far, so good. I’m still learning a lot. One time, my blog went down and all I got was an “Internal Server Error” notice. That was traumatic, but I de-activated and re-activated my plugins and it fixed itself somehow.
i am currently using arthemia theme but thesis theme Rocks.
I have been using Thesis over 2 weeks now and I really love it. I have not mastered it as yet, still working with it and I enjoy using Thesis 1.6
