When I wrote the record breaking traffic day blog post earlier this month, I was just excited about the achievement and wanted to share the experience with the readers, in hope that it may inspire, motivate and help you as well.
What I didn’t realize was that the post would also indirectly help me attract advertisers. Not long after I published the post I was contacted by two different companies asking to advertise on my blog. Here are their messages:
Hi,
The advice on your blog is awesome. I’m not surprised you’ve achieved such good metrics / page-rank.
I’d like to see if there is any way we might be able to promote our services on your site. Please give me a shout when you get a second. Thanks.
Hi,
I work for a web hosting guide that helps people to find a good web hosting provider. I came across your website and I find it very relevant to my client’s site.
I would like to discuss the possibilities to advertise on your website. I am sure that we can agree on a suitable compensation.
Let me know whether or not you are interested in such cooperation.
Best regards,
So what is the point of my experience? You never know who is reading your blog. You may write with your visitor in mind, but a potential advertiser might be reading as well. So you have the possibility to sell advertising space on your blog indirectly by just writing a blog post.
Share your blog success stories
I have explained why it is a good idea to have a blog media kit in case you need to sell advertisement space on your blog. I have also suggested that it is a good idea to directly approach relevant blog advertisers and pitch them your blog.
Writing some strategic blog posts regarding the growth of your blog is another way as it can be seen from my example. I would recommend, no matter the topic of your blog, to share good experiences and milestones of your blog with your readers.
Reached 100 blog posts? Got 1000 RSS subscribers? Hit the front page of Digg and got a great number of visitors? Share it on your blog. Your readers would like to hear about your success and you might attract some sponsors as well.
Make it easy to contact you
When doing this make sure to have a “contact page” in your blog navigational menu so it is easy for potential advertisers to contact you. WordPress blog plugin like Contact Form 7 lets you easily insert a contact form into a blog page.
No matter what you do with the advertisement offers, in my case I have not accepted either of them, it is still a very good step forward for your blog to get advertisers directly contacting you about buying advertisement space.

Why did you turn down the ads? I think writing statistics of my blog once per month would be a great idea.
Thanks for all comments!
@Kai Lo – I try not to undersell the blog. I feel that banner ads are worsening the user experience so I am a bit careful with accepting random companies. See my post on what I think about banner ads.
@Tom – Definitely true!
@jan_geronimo – Thanks for sharing your experience. It is nothing to be worried about, I am sure your readers would love to hear about your progress. So I would recommend to do it when you feel you have something valuable to say.
@Gilang Ramadhan – Yes, definitely. You must do the hard work first and then when something good happens you can share it and then possibly get a reward. There are several interesting articles for new bloggers in my blogging advice archive.
Clicked on you from Twitter. Great advice. Am subscribing through my reader. See ya around.

Funny how our most successful posts are not the ones we plan for but the ones that just happen.
When I was into my second and third month of blogging I had posts about my milestone. But I wrote it to mock myself, making light of my frustrations of not being read and little problems of a newbie blogger.
I have gained a decent number of readers who keep me company since then. Oddly enough, I have been avoiding mention of my progress. I’m a little leery I might sound as too self-involved.
I now realize it’s not a good tactic. Your post shows me it can be a good thing for my blog. Sharing stories like these can inspire other bloggers who face similar challenges. And perhaps I can indirectly help them overcome some issues by showing specific examples how I overcame them.
Thanks. Splendid insight, this.
Aha! Then, for newbie blogger (like I am), I must create more articles ’til it reach at least 100 posts. And it was so hard enough to make high-quality articles that can attract new visitors, readers, and advertisers as well. Huh.
Thanks for article, anyway.
@Marko – Gotcha! Not to mention that if they want DoFollow links to jeopardize your pagerank.
I can’t believe I missed subscribing to this blog. I didn’t even know it existed until I checked out my favorites on StumbleUpon. I thought I had all your subscriptions already. Glad I ‘found’ this one. Great advice as usual.

It’s so true. Most bloggers just think that there fellow bloggers were the only ones reading their blog but the truth is once the blog gets established, more and more eyes gets into it.
