WordPress 2 iPhone app has just been released. I had a quick look and I like it. It is a perfect iPhone application for mobile blogging.
It is very simple to log in to your WordPress blogs (both .com and .org). Blog URL, username and password are all the things you need.
WordPress iPhone app now features a very easy to use navigation on the bottom of the screen with “Comments”, “Posts” and “Pages” . ThisĀ navigation allows you to easily switch between these areas.
WordPress 2 iPhone comments area
Comments area lets you review comments, approve, unapprove, delete and mark as spam.
Comments area looks very nice now as you can see the avatars of your readers and also their website URL’s.
Is it just me or is there no way to reply to a comment via the app itself?
Posts section of the iPhone blogging app
Posts area lets you view your published posts, your drafts and lets you add a new post.
If you go into “add a new post”, you get a post writing navigation menu which features “Write” where you can insert the title, tags, categories, the status (draft, private, published etc.) of the post and it is also here that you write the post itself.

Second tab in the post writing navigation is “Photos” which lets you add photos from your iPhone library or take a new photo with your iPhone camera.
The third tab is Preview and it allows you to see a preview of your post. Photos will be attached to the bottom of the post when you publish it.
Last tab is Settings and it allows you to schedule the publish date, set a password-protected post, and an automatic resize of photos option which results in faster publishing but smaller photos.
Pages area lets you see all your WordPress blog pages and you can also create a new page. It is also possible to add photos to your page, just like you do in a post.

WordPress mission accomplished
According to WordPress, the focus of WordPress 2 iPhone app was on better user experience and on eliminating the bugs and it seems that they have accomplished what they wanted. It is easy to use, it runs fast, what more can you wish for when you are on the go and have to publish something.
It is not possible to style the post in a visual editor, position the pictures, add H3 tags and similar yet, but if you are on the go, I do not think you need that anyway. It is all about getting the message across quickly.

This the new version looks even better. I just wish I had a iphone so I could microblog. Greg Ellison
Hmmm I don’t know … I’d rather buy a 10 inch laptop such as a Acer Aspire One, MSI Wind or one of those HP ones and use that for microblogging. Doing that on an iPhone is like trying to get an elephant to sit at a dinner table, it just doesn’t fit! Especially if you like to do some additional formating and tinkering with your blog post that I like to do before I publish it as well.
Nice review though, love the screenshots.
Thanks Gordon, I agree with the formatting part but you cannot have a netbook in your pocket so I’d still prefer iPhone app if I needed to publish something very fast while I was on the go.
i read about it on steppinoutblog, and agree with the author that wp for iphone may not much help in term of writing new post especially long one.. but to it good for check comment or reply it.
It also good for writing a draft, if you away from computer.
Marko,
This is a great app. I tried it out and love it. Just to see how good it worked, I did a review of the application, from the application. Here
It’s a handy tool to do quick posts from the road.
Love that you can snap pictures and drop them right into a post.
Thanks for the review,
Chris
Looks like a good App. Will certainly increase the number of blog posts being made globally each day.
I’ve also been looking for a phone with mobile blogging capabilities. I was more looking for a phone that runs on Google Android, because of the built-in social media functions (i.e. you can link twitter, facebook accounts to your phones contacts and send them twitter messages directly from the phone’s menu.) But it never crossed my mind there were wordpress-apps for certain platforms. Does Google Android have such an app? That would be great.
Thanks for the insight on this app.
(The material for my guest post is coming up, I’ve been incredibly busy.)
Not sure about Android, never used it. Np, looking forward to the material.
This is amazing, Marko. I love all things Apple and am waiting for my current mobile contract to end so that I can get an iPhone. With this article I’m good to start blogging on it when I get it!
The one thing I would love to see in this app is custom fields. I use custom fields a ton, and it would be extremely helpful. Without that functionality, I pretty much can only use this app to get drafts written…and then I have to finish them off when I’m at a computer. It’s still a great app, and I really like it, but yeah…custom fields would be great. Thanks for the review.
Hey Marko, thanks for the overview. I just downloaded it but haven’t had a chance to play with it yet. I really didn’t use the previous version much and I’m hoping this new one will be a better user experience and that we don’t have to wait so long until the next revision of improvements!
