When writing a blog post, you must consider both the blog reader and the search engine. For the visitor your blog post must have useful and helpful content and must be scannable, while for the search engines you must have unique and keyword rich content.
Search engine optimization (SEO) is about optimizing your blog posts to rank high in the search engine results pages (SERP) and increase overall visibility of your blog site and increase the number of your blog visitors. There are several things to consider to improve your search engines rankings when writing your blog posts.
We have already discussed your blog permalinks and how to make them pretty and search engine friendly. This is a must and it is the step number one.
The most important thing to consider when writing a blog post content are the keywords. Pretty blog permalinks will help in search engine rankings and will help even more if you write a keyword rich blog post.
We have already looked at the best WordPress blog SEO plugins, and the one most relevant to your blog post writing is All In One SEO. This plugin makes it easy to take care of the most important on-page search engine ranking factors like the blog title, description and keyword tags.
Post Title is the most important factor to rank high for your chosen keyword. Your keyword must appear in the post title. Your chosen keywords must also be included in the post content. There are some tools that you can use to research the keywords, and see which keywords are searched for: Google Keyword Tool and Google Complete. Look up the theme you want to write the blog post about and see which keywords are most searched for and use them in your articles as much as possible without making it to unnatural to read for your visitor.

Marko, this post was full of helpful information. I didn’t realize there was so much importance placed on keywords in my blog posts. Thanks for writing this.

I use Affilorama’s Traffic Travis consistently to generate high-ranking keywords from Google, Yahoo and MSN for each blog post. Then I pick out the most relevant keyword phrases for my post and run them through Google’s Keyword tool to check number of average searches per month.
Traffic Travis not only offers the keyword tool, Affilorama has added search engine tools plus PPC, page and SEO analysis tools that are excellent.
