A very simple way of improving your blog usability, its stickiness and increasing the page views per visit is to use more internal links within your blog posts.
We have already looked into plugins that automatically place relevant content at the end of a blog post. Using internal links is similar. The difference is that internal blog linking is done within the post content as a reminder to your blog reader of an older blog article or more information on the topic they are reading about.
As previously mentioned, sidebars are good to use for some navigational plugins including the most recent blog posts, most popular blog posts and the latest blog reader comments. Unfortunately, many blog visitors do not pay much attention to sidebars, and your blog subscribers who are just reading your RSS feed won’t even see them.
By including internal links within you blog posts in appropriate places you can get the relevant links in the eyes of more blog readers / visitors and place them in a way that will use the context of the blog post they are reading to encourage them to click on another blog article, have more page views, and stay longer on your blog.
