As mentioned, it is very useful to install Google Analytics to your blog, to be able to track all the visitor traffic to your blog and learn more about the ways your visitors interact on you blog site. Here is a deeper look into some of the statistics you should keep an eye on regularly:
Visitors – How many visitors stop by your blog. How many of them are unique visitors. How much time do they spend on your blog and how many blog posts do they read per visit. What percentage of these blog visitors are new to your blog site. Where are your visitors based geographically.
Traffic Sources – How and where do your visitors find your blog. Is it via direct traffic, other websites and blogs, or is it via search engines? For those coming through search engines, which keywords do they search for when they find your blog and which search engine do they find you on.
For those arriving from referring websites/blogs, where do they find your link? Why is a link there to your blog site? Consider visiting the linking site and contacting the blogger/webmaster to get to know each other and to thank for the link.
Content – Which pages of your blog are visited the most. What is the content of those pages, maybe you should consider writing more posts on the same topic to expand on some of the ideas in there. Another metric to look for is how long time does a visitor stay on your blog post.
Check for example the “Top Landing Pages”, you would be surprised that your main blog site might not be the most visited page as many visitors are refereed directly to one of your blog posts.
Analytics will also tell you which of your blog posts have the highest bounce rate, pages on which people landed, looked around and left. Analyze what the reason is for the high bounce rate and take steps to improve your blog website stickiness.
