Top 33 silliest search queries people have found my blog with

Blogging funny Google searches

Search engines have sent a total of 24,172 visits to my blog via 13,789 different keyword phrases. Only 143 keywords have sent people in double digits, the great majority of phrases have sent less than 10 visitors each. 11,725 keywords were only used once each to find my blog.

Looking at phrases people discover your blog with is good as it can teach you how people think, what they are looking for and what kind of words they are using when they are searching. This helps you create better blog articles that can contribute to you getting even more visitors from search engines.

Out of the 11,725 keywords many are relevant and targeted. But some of them just make me scratch my head thinking how is this possible? Why would Google send anyone searching for that to my blog? Or why would anyone search for this in the first place?

    Haha, those are weird…

I’ve been getting some really weird stuff lately. Like, I can’t even imagine what kind of people came up with these two:

    15+year+old+sexy+boy
(I think I put too much emphasis on my age at my blog haha)

After thinking about the other term, I don’t think I will share it actually…but it’s amusing what people will find your blog with!

    Thanks for all comments!

@Alex – haha I wouldn’t recommend putting your own picture on the blog then. Creepy stuff!

@Eythor Wesman – I don’t have “E-mail this”. I only have “Tweet this” buttons. They are much more efficient, here is my study on that. But feel free to manually share my URL with whomever you think would like it.

@Gilang Ramadhan – hehe yeah, it is a hard one.

@Harrison Schmidt – That might be the case. Another one might be that phrases are so unique that not many people search them at all.

    Great post-

Not only is this a very entertaining read, but it’s a genuine testament to the power of optimizing websites for long-tail search.

On a side note, I was looking for a function to send a link to this article via email, but no such luck. If the article wasn’t so damned good, I probably would have bounced :)

    Can’t stop lol-ing this keyword query. Haha…

So how to make blog without writing? Any idea, Marko?

    Nice post, anyway.

“2. how to make a blog without writing”
    Do videos.

I think for long tail search google does a lot of rotating of sites in the top 10 results, thats why you are getting one or two visits from a lot of different keywords.

lool I love these things. These are great!
Well just checkin my recent keyword activity and see someone found my site doing a search for “make free money” on yahoo. Number 2 spot. :)
Had a few like that from yahoo recently. It got better.
Had another find from the phrase “how to make free money”
Number 1 spot! Which is pretty good I suppose?
MY favourite so far though has to be the phrase “sit back and make money”
    Now that’s how I say it’s done :D

Haha those were great. I’ve had all sorts of hilarious (and sometimes disturbing) search terms that sent people to my blog. It really is an amazing way to see inside someone’s head a little bit. I found it so interesting that I actually write an article about it: http://bit.ly/GM6ik

@Mkcoy – Good work! Some great keywords you rank for there.

@David Cain – Your seem to get a bit more deeper life-questions about “connecting with people”, “bad moods” and similar… good post.

@Melvin – Just create new content regularly and build links with guest posts and social media buzz. That’s what I am doing personally. See more: from Google PageRank 0 to PR4 and do not worry about SEO.

Wow, 24,000+ is just awesome! Well whenever I write my blogposts I really never cared about search engine traffic but still it manages to get me some. I guess I need to tweak it more now…

I want to know what words have two consecutive i’s in them now too!

My favorite one so far on my blog that educates people about the dangers of teenage driving and advocates for sticker laws and driver’s training was: “class 5 removing gdl [graduated driver's license] quicker”

My blog was the last thing that teen wanted to see!

    @Lauren – Great one Lauren.

“You now officially have another person set to you from searching “what words have two consecutive i’s in them” this post and the one you just made about odd search terms, are the top two results on google for that search!”

Good SEO eh? Now I just have to find lots of different (but strange) keyword phrases, write about them and I’ll rank tops hehe

Hi Marko, On an old blog the best search request was ‘marinated lesbian’ – I apparently have invented a whole new genre of the dubious side of the web. The post has now gone into the internet ether.

In 2003 I had the idea of search stringys – this where you combined two search terms next to each other on the search term list. So I had a few like ‘police makeup’, ‘beer when’, ‘nudist name’

Those were very funny search terms. My funniest have been:
    “decrepit”
    “chartreuse carpet”
“how do you know if your selling agent is…”
    “hardwood carpet which one”

It speaks to the amazing power of search engines that they can even come close to finding what someone is looking for based upon the odd use of the English language.

    Thanks for the laugh.

    Hi Marko,

Ha ha I can’t believe what people could put in search engine. You know what’s the most funniest phrase from your list for me? It’s this one: (how do i get on my blog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). Great:).
I don’t have a lot of traffic on my blog yet, but surely I’ll be putting some funny, crazy phrases in the future.

    Take care,

    Zoran

I actually look at search queries all day long for my job and started collecting and posting some of these crazies on searchoftheday.com. I think my favorite that will be hard to beat is “can i catch autism from an autistic hooker?”

The best part about the site is that it, in turn, captures even more searches as it feeds itself – something that was coined by my colleague as the “perversion recursion”

    Hi Marco,

this post made me laugh, thank you. And all your other posts have really helped me, thank you thank you thank you.

I was going to give you a tip for your blog (before I did that I checked your about page) and it was going to be: Make your blog more personal by adding a picture.

You just did by adding that video (very personal), so my tip is to invest in a trip to the barber since you will be doing video blogging (just kidding).

Were your first web site about AC/DC?

Thanks again for a great blog that I keep coming back to over and over again.

Ha ha ha, you made me laugh with what you found.

Seems Google does love you and you should be happy for that. The user might look for something, but stumbles onto something else. I can’t imagine a ten year old making thousands, I’m sure they would rather spend their time playing games, watching TV or eating.

Thanks Marko. I’ve had a few more from yahoo along the same lines from Yahoo.
Such as “how to make money free” & “make your own blog for free make money”
Another good one was “how to make 100 dollars a week on your spare time”

I do like these. I don’t believe I’ve ever manually submitted my blog to Yahoo only let it search my site when it got round to it. I guess the age of it and the content have most to do with it though.

Hi Marko, great article. I get your articles sent to my email now and there is more chance I’ll read the articles this way.
I don’t have any really funny ones, but I did write a post inspired by your list of the Top 10 searches that lead to people visiting my old Typegeek site. Now I can see how people find the new one!

It also talks briefly about how people can use it to tweak their posts.

i can imagine the “how to make 2000 in one day if your 10″ is a scared, desperate 10 year old boy or girl trying to find a way to make $2000 to replace his Mums vase that he broke fooling around inside the house :P
