How To Prevent A Facebook Epic Fail!

Facebook marketing epic fail

Facebook marketing seems to be where all the buzz is online. And I can understand why!

With over 800 million active users devouring content like a crazed locust in a corn field, you can see why everyone who is anyone is flocking towards Facebook.

Facebook is great and growing at an impressive rate, but many blog owners have been extremely slow to react with Facebook’s ever changing marketing environment. The truth be told there is a strong likelihood that your blog could go completely unnoticed in the hustle and bustle that is the Facebook Newsfeed.

So how can you prevent your efforts from being an Epic Fail?

There are a number of simple fixes you can implement today which can help you go from a marketing underdog to a Facebook Superstar in no time…

Where’s the like?

If your blog is not already using the Facebook “Like” plugin you are off to a bad start. There is nothing more frustrating to a reader than arriving at a good post and not being able to share it easily… you need to make it almost frictionless!

You need to have this plugin on every single post or update that you publish to ensure that if someone fancies sharing your content… they can do so with one click!

On the other hand..if you are one of those social media freaks (You know who you are!) that have hundreds of sharing buttons for each post you need to make some changes! Limit the number of places where they can share content to 3 or 4 places at the most, give them less choice and they are more likely to share! (Personally I use Facebook, Google+ and Twitter)

There are plenty of free plugins available for WordPress and even Facebook has it’s own plugin which you can copy and paste. It’s child’s play!

Build them a temple!

Without a shadow of a doubt the biggest marketing tool in Facebook’s arsenal is the Facebook Fan Page. It gives your fans a place where they can come and interact with you and your content, and gives you a chance to build up a relationship with your fans.

Fan’s get to”Like”, “Share” and “Comment” on your content, whilst at the same time increasing the exposure for your page and your site! A properly managed Facebook Page can drive hundreds of rabid fans to your blog pretty much hands-free. It’s word of mouth advertising at it’s best!

If you haven’t already created a Fan Page you need to consider doing so ASAP. One word of warning! A fanpage without frequent content will soon die out and be useless to you and your blog. So make sure that you share content regularly with your fanpage and maximise the interaction with your fans.

Another Plugin!

This is probably the most underused plugin in the Facebook arsenal, yet it can make your page go viral if you have the right readership on your blog.

It’s the Facebook FAN BOX!

This plugin is also available as a WordPress plugin and is also offered by Facebook. It allows readers to “like” your Facebook page without leaving your blog and also gives you instant social proof as readers can see the number of fans you have. Not only can this drive more traffic to your page and blog… but it gives you that authority status almost straight away!

It’s about making it easier for them to keep in touch with you. By having a Fanbox on your blog it is practically painless to join your Fanpage, and once they do, you can keep on sending them content via their Facebook newsfeed… and that is GREAT!

That’s an ORDER!

Not getting enough “Likes”? Not getting people onto your fanpage?

Chances are you are not telling them to do so! Every post needs to have a call to action that reminds them to “like”, “Share” or “comment” on your post. People need reminding and if you ask nicely, people will more often than not oblige. It really is that simple!
